    Yes, worn internally, expressed externally (and internally until we take it off)…?

    Yes, the Sennelier oil pastels. I’m not so sure I’d want to defend the concept of an internal mask. What exactly would that consist in?–except to say that that’s exactly what it is. .

    Pastel? Charcoal? The red is striking as are the hollow eyes. Internal mask. I’ve never thought of a mask as something to be worn internally, but it makes me think about the process of internal realization and change. I’m enjoying the lines and the rendering of the face, and the colour.

    Thanks John. Yes, I did put a fair amount of time and work into this one—perhaps not as much as you think, but, it is a little more complex than it first appears. I built this picture up over a couple of layers. The actual starting point was some simple doodling at the bottom of the page. I guess it’s something of a self-portrait and something of a mask—an internal mask, if that makes any sense.
